Mark Harvey from iD.8 Photography was engaged to take the photographs at the opening of Sheffield’s second University Technical College (UTC) on Tuesday, May 23rd. The college was opened by Professor Lord Winston who met with staff, governors and students during his visit and tour of the facilities.
Lord Winston unveiled a commemorative plaque and watched on as students worked on technical projects and was also an active participant in a question and answer session.
The UTC campus is based on the Olympic Legacy Park on Attercliffe Common on the site of the former Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. It specialises in computing, health sciences and sport science.
Lord Baker from the Baker Dearing Trust was also in attendance. The Baker Dearing Educational Trust was founded by Lord Baker and Lord Dearing in order to assist with the development and promotion of university technical colleges.
There are currently 129 students based at the UTC campus in Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. Main sponsors of the UTC are Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and The Sheffield College.
Mark Harvey has undertaken numerous freelance photography projects on behalf of the Sheffield UTC and the Baker Dearing Educational Trust.
Lord Winston is Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London. Lord Winston’s other roles include being the Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University and a television presenter.
